Heavy Duty Vehicles
The mobile market is by far the larger of the two segments and is comprised of on-road and off-road vehicles. Weight class subdivides on-road vehicles: passenger cars, light and medium-duty trucks, and heavy-duty trucks and buses. Diesel fuels predominantly power the engines in this mobile market with an increasing number of engines powered by natural gas. Off-road vehicles are most often found in construction and agricultural applications, such as bulldozers and tractors, all of which are currently diesel powered. Other off-road applications include delivery vehicles, mining equipment, and certain forms of limited-range public transportation.
When the EMx catalyst system is applied to lean-burn diesel engines, NOx and hydrocarbons (HC) have been reduced by more than 90%. This dramatic achievement exceeds the US EPA’s 2007 emission reduction requirement for heavy-duty vehicles. It is also a significantly greater reduction than that obtainable by other commercially available technologies, including its nearest competitor, Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR).
